Buddy scheme for new consultants
The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) is delighted to launch a buddy scheme for new consultants in 2014.
The aim of the Buddy Scheme is to give newly appointed consultants a friendly ear to help them through those tricky first few months in their new role. We now count 15 wise and friendly FPH Fellows who volunteered to get this scheme off the ground by providing guidance and experience to help new consultants along.
As a Buddy Scheme participant, new consultants can expect to:
- Receive a minimum of two one-hour sessions in the first six months of their new post, the first preferably face-to-face, although Skype is also encouraged
- Be matched with a buddy geographically (when available)
- Get flexible and individually-tailored support from their mentoring buddy on a 1:1 basis.
So far, we have appointed 20 mentoring pairs across the country.
The scheme is informal and requires no previous mentoring experience. New consultants who have recently taking up post are encouraged to apply. The scheme is nationwide, and we are looking to recruit new mentoring buddies to cover all of the FPH regional areas.
Many thanks to all new consultants and mentoring buddies who have already joined the scheme.
