Clinical specialties

The Faculty of Public Health has taken part in discussions with key stakeholders to explore initially the potential for enhancing the public health skills and capabilities of trainees in other clinical specialties. This work was commissioned by the Department of Health. These stakeholders are:

  • the General Medical Council
  • the Royal Colleges/Faculties
  • the Departments of Health
  • the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.

To facilitate this it was agreed to conduct a mapping exercise of curricula and identify areas of equivalence between the public health specialty and the following specialties:

  • General Practice
  • Community Sexual & Reproductive Health
  • Medical Microbiology
  • Paediatrics and Child Health
  • Sports and Exercise Medicine

The result of this was A Scoping of Medical Specialty Curricula to Map Areas of Potential Equivalence to the Public Health Curriculum Phase 1 and Phase 2 by George Boak and David Moore.
