Dismay as cabinet public health committee is scrapped

Following the announcement that the government is to disband the cabinet sub-committee on public health, FPH has written to Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, outlining its concerns and its dismay at the loss of this committee, and what it appears to signal about the government's commitment to public health.

FPH Vice President, Dr John Middleton said: "This committee should have been the engine room and conscience for driving forward cross-government action on improving the health of the people of England.

"At a time of major change to the public health system in England, disbanding this committee sends a signal that - at the very highest level of this government - public health is not a high priority."
