The Part B MFPH Evaluation

The new-style Part B MFPH Objective Structured Public Health Examination (OSPHE) has been in operation since February 2006. When setting up the examination FPH were keen to make sure it worked well and that it appropriately looked at the skills and capabilities required of specialists.

Therefore, to ensure that the new examination was fit for purpose FPH commissioned an external review of the examination. The review was conducted by the University of Birmingham, who started work in March 2006, and have produced a report on the first full year of operation.

This review has been discussed throughout the FPH Committee structure including the Executive Committee and Board.

The report from the Chair, Part B MFPH Examination, sets out the actions taken on each recommendation. Some of the recommendations in the report required immediate action that has been taken. Other recommendations required considerable work and, in some cases, deeper research to find the most satisfactory way forward.
