Skills tested at Part I
- Design and interpretation of studies: skills in the design of research studies; ability critically to evaluate published papers including the validity of the use of statistical techniques and the inferences drawn from them; ability to draw appropriate conclusions from quantitative and qualitative research.
- Data processing, presentation and interpretation: ability to sort and manipulate data, and to draw appropriate conclusions from quantitative and qualitative data.
- Communication: written presentation skills; preparation of papers for publication; preparation of material for different audiences, including expert and non-expert audiences and the media. Information handling and use of media in advising the public about health services, disease prevention (including communicable disease outbreaks and environmental hazards) and health promotion.
