*Please note: for applicants whose correspondence address is outside the EU the fee is £20 higher than the stated amount (excluding Hong Kong candidates).

** Please note: There is an additional fee for candidates wishing to sit the examination in Hong Kong who do not have a medical background or are not on a Hong Kong training programme. See here for further information.


The Part B/OSPHE MFPH examination

The Faculty randomly allocates candidates to all OSPHE sittings. To ensure as much flexibility as possible, please ensure that the dates you have selected are kept free until a place is allocated in writing. Candidates will be formally notified of their OSPHE allocation soon after the closing date and within three weeks prior to that examination.

*In accordance with our Service Level Agreement with The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), the Faculty reserves the right to cancel any of the OSPHE sittings. They will only go ahead if at eight weeks in advance 24 candidates have applied. In the event of such cancellation the Faculty will notify candidates six weeks before the examination date or as soon as practicable of the cancellation.

Closing dates

  • These are given in the current examination timetables and they are absolute.
  • Applications received after 5.00pm on the closing date cannot be accepted and no allowance can be made for postal delays or for candidates applying from overseas.
  • Candidates are advised to use recorded or registered delivery and retain proof of posting if there is any doubt that their application will arrive by the closing date.
  • It will normally take several days to check and process entries. Receipt of all applications will be acknowledged. Candidates may telephone the Education Department to confirm receipt of their application if they wish.

Withdrawals

  • Candidates withdrawing from an examination after the closing date and up to one week before the examination will normally be charged 50% of the fee.
  • No refund will be made to candidates withdrawing within 7 days of the examination.
  • No refund will be granted without written notice of intention to withdraw.
  • A greater refund may be granted at the discretion of the Academic Registrar under exceptional circumstances.

Extenuating Circumstances

Candidates may complete the extenuating circumstances form to inform FPH of serious circumstances that occurred in the three weeks up to and including the date of the Part A or Part B MFPH Examination and that have adversely affected their examination performance. This information will be made available to the relevant Chair of Examiners.

Please note, marks/results will not be altered to reflect individual circumstances.

It is the candidate's responsibility to complete and return this form to arrive at the FPH no later than three days after the examination date.

Types of adverse circumstance that FPH may consider:

  • The death or critical illness of a dependent or close relative.
  • A severely debilitating illness during most of the revision period or examination.
  • The loss, due to circumstances beyond your control, of more than 10 minutes of examination time.

Circumstances not normally considered:

  • Planned house removals.
  • Work-related contingencies (e.g. shiftwork).
  • Normal pregnancy.
  • English as a second language.
