FPH responds to Lansley's letter to GMC
FPH welcomes the Secretary of State for Health's letter to the GMC committing to the introduction the revalidation of doctors but extending the pilot process. A proportionate revalidation scheme will be vital in helping doctors to continue to deliver high quality healthcare for patients and the public.
FPH recognises that concerns existed over the proposed timing of implementing revalidation processes, which will depend on the lessons learnt from the pilots.
Extending these will demonstrate the robustness of the proposed processes, while further exploring the resource implications. It will also ensure time for the FPH public health standards to be incorporated, as we continue to work closely with regulators, AoMRC, DHs, the profession, employers and the public to rigorously test both.
