FPH response to BMA report on alcohol marketing

Professor Alan Maryon-Davis, President of UK Faculty of Public Health (FPH), commented on the findings of the new BMA report “Under the influence - the damaging effect of alcohol marketing on young people”:

"FPH agrees with the report that the time has come to get tough with the drinks industry. Voluntary codes simply aren't working. There has to be legislation. Whilst we have reservations about a blanket ban on marketing alcohol, we strongly advocate minimum pricing as one way of stopping all of the ultra-cheap offers in supermarkets, clubs and pubs that tempt so many young people into dangerous bingeing."

UK FPH is a member of the Alcohol Health Alliance UK.
