GMC National Training Survey Workshop
On 31 October 2011 members of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) met to discuss how the General Medical Council (GMC) National Training Survey could be improved in order to widen the survey access to include public health registrars with a non-medical background and gain greater quality data. Representatives from the GMC were there to discuss future developments for the survey and to answer questions from the group.
This process has included reviewing and developing generic and speciality-specific questions, as well as a new survey tool.
The workshop was an opportunity for FPH, registrars and TPDs to share information from surveys conducted locally, to discuss the different approaches to gathering the information, to understand what worked well in gathering this information and the problems encountered, such as lack of anonymity for the registrars, clarification on how comments are to be handled and repetition of questions in different surveys.
Slides of presentations by attendees:
- General Medical Council
- Introduction, Mike Robinson, Director of Liaison with Training Programmes (Chair)
- Where are we now? Gavin Dabrera, StR LKSS (Co-Chair)
Representatives from each region then had the opportunity to discuss their experiences in conducting questionnaires for registrars, the outcome of which was the identification of key areas for which questions were to be drafted and then submitted to the GMC for review.
