Fellowship via membership
Who is eligible for Fellowship via membership?
Faculty members who have completed their higher specialist training in public health in the UK, and who have specialist registration in public health with either the General Medical Council or the UK Voluntary Register for Public Health Specialists are eligible for Fellowship of the Faculty if they meet the Faculty's minimum CPD requirements.
Any other Faculty members (all grades) who have specialist registration in public health are also eligible to apply for Fellowship via membership.
In addition, those Faculty members who can satisfy the Board that they are working or have worked at a level equivalent to consultant in public health but for whom specialist registration in the UK may not necessarily be appropriate (eg members working outside the UK, retired members, Diplomate Members who are no longer in training, members with GMC specialist registration in a specialty other than public health medicine gained through the recommendation of another medical royal college or faculty, etc – this list is not intended to be comprehensive) are eligible to apply for Fellowship via membership. Such application s will be assessed by the Academic Registrar and submitted to the Faculty Board for approval.
From the date of admission Fellows are entitled to use the designation FFPH.
The application process
Once an SpT/SpR completes their public health training and meets all the criteria for the certificate of completion of training (including being a Member of the Faculty) and the Training Department receives their final RITA form, the Faculty recommends them to the PMETB or the UKVRPHS for specialist registration. At the same time they will be recommended to the Faculty Board for Fellowship, subject to them meeting the Faculty's minimum CPD requirements .
Candidates for Fellowship will then be contacted directly by the Membership Department with the necessary forms and information. They will not normally be required to pay any fee, unless their annual subscription is due for payment at this time.
Other Faculty members who are not trainees should complete a Fellowship via membership application form [word] and send it to the Faculty office.
Those Faculty members who were assessed (rather than examined) as a route to specialist registration will be asked to pay an exemption fee equivalent to the cost of examination, enrolment and trainee membership fees .
