No Smoking Day shows need for cessation services

March 12 is No Smoking Day. Commenting on the importance of this awareness day, Dr John Middleton, FPH's Vice President for Policy, said:

"No Smoking Day matters because it gives a national, high-profile focus on the importance of supporting people who want to quit smoking. Many of our members work in local authorities in England that are having to make huge cutbacks to their services.

"We need to make sure that smoking cessation services are properly funded across the UK so we that we can keep up the good work that has led to so many people kicking the habit. Otherwise, we will all pay the price in the long run of treating smoking-related illnesses."
