Revalidation
Introduction
Please note that in light of imminent changes around revalidation the information on this page will be subject to change.
As public health is a multidisciplinary specialty, the Faculty of Public Health expects all of its members with specialist registration to revalidate in a similar manner.
The vast majority of public health professionals are practicing to a high standard. Revalidation should be a process that will support continuous quality improvement in standards and practice for both public health professionals and the public alike.

GMC Consultation (Revalidation: the way ahead)
The General Medical Council has set out the most comprehensive statement yet on revalidation, with proposals on how it will work, when it will be rolled out, and what doctors and employers need to do. The consultation poses 20 questions on 4 main themes (how revalidation will work, what doctors and employers will need to do, how patients will be involved and how and when revalidation will be introduced).
Full details on the consultation can be found on the GMC’s website. The consultation will run from 1 March 2010 until 4 June 2010.
Public Health Specialist Standards for Revalidation
The General Medical Council formally approved the specialist standards for revalidation in public health and eleven other specialties on 14 December 2009. This approval covers a series of standards for all professionals practising within their specialty. The specialty standards are in line with the generic standards and criteria outlined in the GMC's Framework for Appraisal and Assessment which is an adaptation of Good Medical Practice.
The individual Colleges and Faculties (including FPH) also identified a range of supporting information for revalidation. The supporting information is still being considered by the GMC and will form part of the GMC’s revalidation consultation in February 2010.
