Commissioning for health & wellbeing

Commissioning is at the heart of the Government’s desire to improve the health and wellbeing of communities and transform services for individuals. This is apparent in policy documents concerned with health and social care but also with the wider determinants of health including education, transport, housing and regeneration.

The success of ‘World Class Commissioning’, whether as a specific term addressed to primary care trusts (PCTs) or a wider aspiration across Government, rests on the excellence of the implementation of a set of organisational competencies set out in World Class Commissioning Competencies (DH 2007).
