Out of programme experience for training or research

Out of programme experience for training (OOPT) and out of programme experience for research (OOPR) must be prospectively approved by PMETB if it is to count towards the award of CCT.

Applications for approval for out of programme training or research must be made to the PMETB by the deanery. For details of making your application to PMETB, please see the PMETB website.

If the deanery requires advice from the Faculty of Public Health about the suitability of specific OOPT posts/ projects the process is as follows:

  1. An application should be sent to the Education and Training Department by the Faculty Adviser/ Training Progamme Director preferably 6 months and not less than 3 months in advance of the placement you are applying for outlining the following:
    - the organisation and country where the OOPT will be undertaken
    - the length of the OOPT
    - the description of the project that will be undertaken
    - the competencies (based on the training portfolio) which will be met through the experience
    - the local (on-site) supervisor (who should have professional links with a named UK trainer)
  2. The Director of Training will review the application and offer advice on the suitability of the post/ project for OOPT.
  3. A letter will be sent to the Faculty Advisor/ Training Programme Director on whether FPH considers the post/ project suitable for OOPT.
