Procedure of application
Applications will be considered in two stages. Only applications made on the appropriate application form [PDF] with the requisite documentation and fee will be considered.
STAGE I
Scrutiny of CV. A non-refundable fee of £575 is payable.
Please submit the following:
a. A full CV detailing all your medical qualifications, training courses attended, training posts held and lists of any publication etc.
b. Confirmation of registrable status of primary medical qualification from the GMC
c. The names and contact information of at least four referees, one of whom must be the applicant's current head of unit and all others of whom must not be working in that unit. At least one of the three must be of national eminence in the field. The panel may determine which referees will be used and need not use the names submitted.
d. If the applicant has held an NHS consultant post, the referees named should also include ones from whom the Faculty may seek reports in confidence on your ability to work in a professional capacity at consultant level in the NHS and (if substantive or honorary) whether the post was obtained in open competition.
e. A copy of the front page of each publication, particularly those publications which have the applicant's name as first author.
STAGE II
If successful, the Faculty will recommend inclusion on the Specialist Register to the STA. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application for entry to the Specialist Register by the STA.
If the application is successful, the Faculty will confirm exemption
from all or part of MFPH and recommend that the Faculty Board elect
the applicant to Membership. Acceptance of Membership is optional
for the applicant and does not affect the recommendation to the STA.
If the applicant chooses to accept Membership, a Registration fee
and Subscription fee will be requested.
If your application is unsuccessful, the Faculty will indicate to
the STA what further training or examinations you are required to
obtain in order to meet the criteria for entry in the Specialist Register.
The Faculty has an appeals procedure, copies of which are available from the Education & Training Department on request.
Please return the completed application form, appropriate fee
and supporting documentation to the Faculty at the address given on
application form. All applications will be acknowledged and the recommendation
of the Faculty will be forwarded to the STA for approval. The STA
then determines whether the relevant criteria have been met and informs
the applicant of their decision.
