Job description for public health specialist trainees

The trainee will be expected to identify, with their trainer, their training needs and competencies to be acquired, and to take all the necessary steps to obtain MFPH.

The trainee will be expected to make use of all training opportunities available, including health protection, and to keep abreast of current issues in public health and public health training.

The trainee will be expected to contribute actively and effectively to the public health functions of the training location, wherever that may be, to attend departmental meetings if appropriate, and to contribute to the public health network arrangements as appropriate.

The trainee will be expected to undertake all their work in line with FPH guidelines on Good Public Health Practice.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 4 years' experience relevant to public health practice, which might include health, local authority or voluntary sector experience, is an essential pre-requisite.

A first degree (equivalent to second class or above) or equivalent health professional qualification, held for at least two years.

Evidence of a commitment to public health and a strong personal motivation
