Whooping cough outbreak is cause for concern

FPH is concerned about the current epidemic of whooping cough (or pertussis) in California.

Dr John Middleton, Vice President for Policy, said: "Public health authorities, general practices and community nurses need to remain vigilant about  keeping up and improving immunisation levels for this potentially fatal disease.

"Parents need to be aware that whooping cough can return to the UK if their children are not immunised and it can cause a distressing illness, disability and even death. Parents, particularly expectant mothers, should seek advice from their doctor or health visitor."
