This webinar will explore the identification, assessment and support of children, young people and adults living with FASD.
We are delighted to welcome Professor Raja Mukherjee, who leads the UK’s national diagnostic service for FASD and is a recognised international expert in the field. Professor Mukherjee will discuss the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure on learning, memory, emotional regulation and behaviour. He will examine how education, health and other agencies can work collaboratively with families to provide effective support, improve quality of life and reduce future risks.
Drawing on his extensive experience, Professor Mukherjee will also reflect on current practice, assess how well services are meeting the needs of individuals with FASD, and outline a blueprint for future improvement.
Professor Raja Mukherjee is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Learning Disability Services and Clinical Lead for Adult Neurodevelopmental Services at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. An internationally recognised expert in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), he has advised the BMA, Department of Health, World Health Organization, NICE, and parliamentary groups. In 2024, he was appointed Professor of Psychiatry and Lead for Psychiatry at the University of Surrey Medical School, where he leads the psychiatry curriculum. He was awarded an MBE in 2023 for services to people with neurodevelopmental disorders.
