The private sector affects the health and wellbeing of our residents both positively and negatively through the products they sell and their wider business practices. There is public support for evidence-based policies to tilt the balance of power in the wider economic and regulatory system away from large corporations back to communities and government to regulate in the public interest.
The commercial determinants of health (CDOH) are the ways in which commercial actors and their products, practices and broader influence affect people's health and health inequalities. This spans everything from how products are designed, priced and marketed, through to corporate lobbying and the wider political and economic environment in which businesses operate.
In this lunch and learn, we will hear from speakers who have developed evidence-informed guidance to support this work, as well as those who are introducing good governance policies and practices into their work at a local level.
