Public Health in the New NHS: Opportunities, Challenges and Leadership

10th September 2026, 1:00pm - 2:00pm, Online

In June 2026, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) and the Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH) published a joint report, Healthcare Public Health in England, making the case for boosting the input from accredited public health specialists across the NHS in England. With the NHS undergoing fundamental redesign, we have an opportunity to embed public health expertise in the future system and improve population health. The report sets out ten recommendations, including rebuilding specialist public health leadership into Integrated Care Boards and provider organisations, continuing to recognise Directors of Public Health as the leadership anchor at place, and strengthening professional standards in senior roles.

This webinar will discuss the findings of the report. Joining Sarah Price, NHS England Director for Public Health and Chair of the Public Health in the NHS Professional Network will be Professor Yvonne Doyle, chair of the Faculty's Health Services Committee, and Julia Weldon, Former ADPH Board Member and Corporate Director of Public Health & Adult Social Care for Hull City Council.

Our confirmed speakers, and authors of the report, are:

  • Professor Yvonne Doyle, Chair, FPH Health Services Committee
  • Julia Weldon, Former ADPH Board Member and Corporate Director of Public Health & Adult Social Care for Hull City Council
  • Joseph Home, Public Health specialty registrar
  • Joe Dalloz, Public Health specialty registrar
  • Frances Burnett, Public Health specialty registrar

The session will conclude with a Q&A, providing participants the chance to engage directly with our speakers.
