The Academic Public Health (APH) SIG was established in the summer of 2022, after direct encouragement from Professor Brayne as the then chair of the FPH Academic and Research Committee, to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge between the academic public health community in the UK.

Professor Carol Brayne CBE has been at the forefront of population studies of ageing, and specifically the epidemiology of dementia, for almost four decades. Her work leading the MRC Cognitive Function and Ageing Studies (CFAS) demonstrated a decline in the age-specific incidence rates of dementia, with profound implications for policy and research.
With a H-Index of 152, and over 150,000 citations, Professor Brayne is ranked #7 nationally, and #80 globally, for the most influential female scientists. Beyond her own research, Professor Brayne has supported and influenced academic public health across the UK and further afield, as Director of Cambridge Institute of Public Health (now Cambridge Public Health) for many decades, former Chair of the FPH Academic and Research Committee, Special Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians, and Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, amongst many other leadership roles.
Following Professor Brayne’s lecture, there will be a facilitated Q&A including reflections from an expert panel.
