Indoor air pollution, health and ventilation in the UK

The webinar, hosted by the FPH Healthy Places SIG, will include a general introduction to indoor air quality, with a focus on recent work on indoor damp and mould.

Discussion will then move on to talk about building scale solutions, how to improve air flow in a variety of spaces (including domestic), air cleaners, and an introduction to recently developed guidance for small businesses.

Speakers:

  • Dr Sierra Clark, environmental epidemiologist working as a Lecturer in Population Health at St. George’s, University of London, in the Environmental and Social Epidemiology section of the Population Health Research Institute. She has worked with international research groups and government organisations to conduct environmental health research, having also previously worked in the Air Quality and Noise and Public Health teams at the UK Health Security Agency and with Health Canada. 
  • Dr Abigail Hathaway, Chartered Building Services Engineer with an interest in the performance of buildings (from both energy and health and wellbeing point of view) and senior lecturer in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield. She has co-authored the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers Emerging from Lockdown guidance on Ventilation and the Indoor Environments Chapter of the Chief Medical Officers report on Indoor Air Pollution (2022). Following the pandemic, she worked closely with environmental health teams and small businesses to develop bespoke ventilation guidance for hospitality venues.
