Dual Accreditation Programme for Public Health and General Practice

The General Medical Council has approved plans for the Faculty of Public Health, the Royal College of General Practitioners and NHS England to begin development of a Dual Accreditation Programme for training in Public Health and General Practice.

There are currently a number of professionals who have trained in both General Practice and Public Health; either sequentially or by interdigitating the two programmes. This new Dual Accreditation will allow for a more streamlined and effective programme for those who want to do both Public Health and General Practice.

It is anticipated that the Programme will begin with a pilot cohort in August 2024, with recruitment taking place this Autumn. The new Programme is expected to last seven years in total.

Work is currently underway to scope common learning outcomes, and to ensure that all competencies and assessments of both curricula are covered. We will provide updates later in the year as the work progresses.
