Fossil fuels position statement: launch and panel event

3rd April 2024, 10:00am - 11:00am , Online

Join us for the launch of the Faculty of Public Health's new position statement on fossil fuel expansion.

The launch will be marked by talks and an online discussion event with authors of the statement and Sharon Friel, Professor of Health Equity and Director of the School of Regulation and Global Governance, Australian National University, and Deborah Harkins, Director of Public Health, Calderdale Council.

Following a brief introduction to the position statement, they will discuss the issues raised by the report, from the life-cycle health impacts of oil and gas extraction and dependence, to broader issues raised by the commercial determinants of health in relation to fossil fuels.

The event will seek to explore the role public health practitioners and institutions, as well as partners and colleagues in local government and beyond, can play in driving a just and inclusive transition away from fossil fuels to protect and promote health.
