Poverty and chronic pain

4th November 2025, 1:00pm - 2:00pm , Online

Chronic pain affects 15.5 million people in England, with one in eight adults experiencing life-limiting symptoms. Despite its scale, chronic pain is often overlooked in public health and policy.

Chronic pain disproportionately affects people in poverty, with those in the most deprived areas twice as likely to be affected.

This joint webinar between the Faculty's Musculoskeletal Health and Poverty Special Interest Groups explores the public health burden of chronic pain, its social and structural drivers, and how systems must respond.

Speakers

  • Professor Tim Hales, University of Dundee: Founder of the CAPE consortium on pain inequality
  • Dr Shahzad Jamil, Rethinking Pain; GP with Extended Role in MSK and national leader in pain education
