Public Health and The UK Armed Forces

  • Introduction: The history of and key areas within Defence Public Health

  • Health Protection:

    • Covid outbreak mapping

    • Management of outbreaks of infectious disease in a deployed setting overseas

    • Other health protection considerations for deploying troops, including air quality, vector management and vaccination.

  • Health Prevention: Work undertaken within Defence to maintain the fitness of the fighting force.

  • Global Health Engagement: An overview of the principles of Defence’s contribution to global health and some of the challenges faced.

We aim to share some of the lessons learned from public health in a Defence setting and to discuss some of the nuances of dealing with a military population who may deploy to worldwide settings at short notice. There will be opportunity to ask questions and to discuss overlap between Defence and civilian public health.
