Alcohol SIG

The Alcohol Special Interest Group (SIG) brings together Faculty of Public Health members with an interest in reducing alcohol-related harm and improving population health. The group provides a forum for sharing evidence, expertise and best practice on alcohol policy, prevention, treatment and wider public health approaches to alcohol-related issues. Through collaboration, advocacy and knowledge exchange, the SIG supports public health professionals to address the significant health, social and economic impacts of alcohol use. The Alcohol SIG reports to the Faculty's Health Improvement Committee.

FPH members can join this SIG by logging into their FPH members’ portal account, selecting the ‘Committees/SIGs’ button and choosing the correct SIG. Recent work

In 2026, the Alcohol SIG responded to the Home Office’s consultation on the proposed relaxation of licensing hours for the Men’s Football World Cup 2026. Read the consultation response here.

In 2025, the Alcohol and Commercial Determinants of Health SIG responded to the Home Office and Department for Business and Trade’s call for evidence on Reforming the licencing system. Read the consultation response here.

In 2021, the SIG commented on and endorsed the SHAAP NCD Report.
