SIG Workplan

Vision and aims

The Global Violence Prevention SIG aims to raise awareness and promote the evidence base for action on violence and conflict as threats to health. The SIG fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange with similarly aligned organisations, including other FPH SIGs and the Global Alliance on War, Conflict and Health. Thus, group and independent projects, as well as academic collaborations, are facilitated, with the goal of raising awareness of and advocating for preventative approaches to protecting health worldwide and promoting violence reduction worldwide.

Activity: Modernise the FPH statement on the role of PH in violence prevention 

Outcome: Updated statement, that can then be launched

Activity: Collaboration with UKHSA Global Ops UKOT team

Outcome: To be determined, possible collaborations include:

  • Developing  a violence prevention strategy and action plan with the community development officer.
  • Organize sessions with VRU leads in the UK to assist Anguilla CMO in reviewing data collection.
  • Support other UKOTs in adopting StreetDoctors.

Activity: Post-conflict/accord Scoping review with City St George’s Uni of London

Outcome: Publication of a manuscript answering the question: What post-conflict/accord (PCA) interventions are effective at reducing the occurrence of violence among populations exposed to violent conflict?

Activity: Mapping exercise to understand the scope of violence prevention work across different LA.

Outcome: Improved understand of violence prevention work undertaken in LA.

Activity: Developing a response to the UK Parliament call for evidence on Tackling Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG).

Outcome: Advocacy for VAWG

Outputs: Response to a call for evidence

Activity: Hold quarterly meetings for networking and learning from each other as well as to discuss ongoing and potential projects. Share information about relevant events of interest with the group to keep members aware of opportunities. 

Outcome: At least 4 group meetings to be held throughout the year.

Activity: Hold at least 1 talk available to all FPH members.
