Curriculum Review

Details of the Faculty's Curriculum Review process and how to get involved.

The Faculty conducts a comprehensive review of the specialty training curriculum approximately every five years to ensure it aligns with regulatory requirements and remains effective in training a skilled workforce. The current curriculum is available for review here.

Given changes affecting professionals in Public Health, this is an ideal opportunity to assess and update the curriculum, ensuring it continues to equip trainees with the essential core Public Health specialist skills necessary to practice across diverse settings.

The curriculum outlines key processes, including learning methods, outcomes, induction, assessment, and remediation, along with the phases of training and settings for learning.

This autumn the Faculty will be launching the next curriculum review.

Following the 2022 "light touch" review, this will be a substantive, in-depth revision.

Objectives of the Curriculum Review

•   To engage stakeholders at all levels within the Public Health sector throughout the review process.

•    To develop a revised training curriculum for presentation and approval by the regulatory bodies: General Medical Council and the UK Public Health Register.

•    To implement the newly approved curriculum in the summer of 2027.

Getting Involved

The curriculum review will be overseen by the Curriculum Review Steering Group, who will provide strategic guidance on the development and implementation of the new curriculum. The Curriculum Review Working Group will be responsible for:

•    Contributing to the development of the consultation process.
•    Analysing feedback from stakeholders.
•    Assisting in the design of the new curriculum based on the feedback received.
