Florence Jean Robertson Obituary

Jean Robertson MBE HonMFPH worked with the Faculty for twenty-five years, from its inception in 1972 until her retirement as Assistant Secretary in 1997. She was awarded an MBE in 1996 for Services to Public Health.

Jean was born and raised in Wallasey, Merseyside. On leaving her hometown to take up a position at the College, she settled in Petts Wood, Kent. Her fiercely independent and self reliant attitude to living was matched by her outgoing and gregarious personality. She became a pillar of the Petts Wood Methodist Church community, and was a much loved auntie to my son and daughter. In her retirement she travelled widely, mostly by way of ocean cruises where she met (and surely entertained) several “celebrity” fellow passengers.

A diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome at the age of 81 in 2018 sadly curtailed her independence, and the last 18 months of her life were spent in residential care in Derbyshire close to family, her niece and two young great-nephews on whom she doted.
